Vocalocity – VoIP reviewed

An internet telephony award as one of the best products of the year 2007, ranking amongst the top 5 VoIP service providers in the market and its immense popularity with small companies is what makes Vocalocity, one of the biggest names in virtual PBX today.

Launched as recently as 2003, Vocalocity has risen.

And the rise has been fast.

Today, we look at some of the possible reasons why most small businesses look forward to Vocalocity VOIP when it comes to handling their business communication.

Simplicity in usage

When you sign up for a VoIP service, you want it to be fast and easy. And that’s one of the key features of Vocalocity. It is extremely easy to install and use.

The maximum time that a user takes to install Vocalocity will be 15 minutes. Mostly less.

And the only things required to install the service are a computer, an internet connection and a phone that’s compatible with the service. (Linksys, Polycom, and Aastra). This eliminates a lot of hassles associated with on-site hardware.

The website has detailed instructions including a demo video and pdf manuals that can be followed.  They also do a great job on walking you through choosing the best VOIP system for your business.

Overview

Vocalocity claims that over 80% of its subscribers are small business (companies with less than 20 employees) and in most such companies, people multitask.

With multiple extensions you can look like a bigger company by wearing different hats at a time, often working while on the move. With Vocalocity, you can carry the complete PBX service on the move with your cell phone.

Voice Pricing Plans

There are 3 different Voice Plans on offer called the Unlimited Extension plan, the metered extension plan and the virtual extension.

The difference between the three lies in their features and the pricing.

Unlimited Extension: Flat rate inbound and outbound calls across the US and Canada for one unique extension @ $39.99 USD per month. It also offers one additional company number at 9.99 USD.

Metered Extension: This plan is ideal for extensions that are not used for more than 30 minutes a day. It is priced at $14.99 per month and every additional minute will cost you $0.03

Virtual Extension: If you do not require an office phone, then the virtual extension plan is perfect for you. You can receive all calls on your cell phone and the plan also includes voicemail, direct dial phone number, Virtual Extension forwarding to another VoIP number, landline or answering service. The plan is priced at $14.99.

 Some add on features include

  • Call Queue $14.99 a month
  • Conference Bridge $14.99 a month plus minutes
  • Voicemail transcriptions $4.99 a month per extension
  • Faxing at $14.99 a month, no limits (please confirm as these items can and sometimes do change)

A quick look:

  • Unlimited Calling: On Unlimited and Virtual Extension Plans
  • Local Number Portability (LNP): Retaining your existing number by porting it.
  • Web Portal Interface: Users can customize their own services using a web interface.
  • Directory Assistance (411)
  • Emergency Service (911)

Other than this standard add-on services like caller ID, call waiting, call hold, call transfer, three-way calling, call logs and caller ID block are also available.

The conference bridge which allows up to 30 users to conference at a time is one of the stand out features of the service.

The Vocalocity Voicemail (password protected voicemail, greeting options), Vocalocity Inbox (voice, fax, email unified inbox, deleted item recovery) and Vocalocity Virtual Receptionist (automatic customized time of day and day of week greetings, dial-by-name directory, virtual department set up) are some of the other features.

The Differentiating Factor

Unlike most other VoIP companies in the market, Vocalocity does not use third party technology. It has spent more than $15 million to create a service that is reliable, customizable and affordable for micro enterprises.

Which VoIP company assigns you a personal business manager to look after your custom requirements? Vocalocity does!

If you have been bothered by lack luster customer support in the past, then it ends here.

The Final Verdict

A quick analysis reveals that Vocalocity offers everything that a small business requires to enhance its business communication, credibility and reliability. We especially like the unlimited minutes. Overall a good value but please be sure you have the extra feature you want and that they are included in your plan and are not an extra charge.  We wish they offered a Free trial but they do not.

What is the best business phone system for you? As with anything in life it depends on your needs. Imagine a phone system with unlimited calling, an auto-receptionist, customized greetings, advanced call forwarding, waiting for the next available employee (like an ACD, Automatic Call Director) and much more. Imagine happy customers that never get a busy signal and get to the correct person to solve their problem more quickly and with lower costs to you.
